DESCRIPTION

The Law on Health and Safety in the Workplace (89(I)/1996) and the Regulations 158/2021 and 238/2021 (Appendix III) require that Safety Representatives must receive the minimum training as stated in Appendix III.

The program is suitable for:

  • personnel appointed or elected as employees’ safety representatives.
  • employees assigned with the promotion and/or coordination of Safety and Health at work

Objectives of the Program

After completing the program, the trainees will be able to:

COGNITIVE

  1. Enumerate and articulate the main provisions of occupational safety and health legislation including provisions for the management of occupational safety and health matters.
  2. To describe the function and responsibilities of safety committees.
  3. List and understand at a basic level the main occupational health and safety hazards.
  4. Describe the process and steps of a risk assessment and their importance.

SKILLS

  1. Classify risks by severity.
  2. Understand the importance of measures taken to reduce the likelihood of an accident and/or the consequences.
  3. Apply the hierarchy approach with which protection measures are taken at a collective and/or individual level.

ATTITUDE-APPROACH-PHILOSOPHY

  1. Identify/verify the application of the basic principles of safety and health in their workplace.
  2. Actively participate in occupational health and safety committees.
  3. Communicate effectively with staff and encourage the submission of suggestions on safety and health issues.
  4. To actively promote the culture of safety and health at work.

About the Instructor

Mary Frangou – Director & Training Manager of Columbia Hotel Academy

Mrs. Mary Frangou is a holder of a Bachelor Degree in Greek Medieval Literature from the University of Ioannina, a Master degree in Business Administration and an International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from the British Safety Council.

In her continuous professional development she acquired the title of Grad IOSH from Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) as well the title of Grad IOSH Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner. Since 2004 and until today she is working in the Hotel industry, and in her capacity as Health & Safety and Quality Manager has been appointed by the Columbia Hotels and Resorts as the responsible manager of the Company’s’ Integrated Management System (IMS) which includes all the operational and Administration aspects of one 5* and two 4* leading Hotels.

She has vast experience in the hotel industry as vocational trainer, Health and Safety and Quality Management as well as in internal auditing. She is the Lead Trainer of the Columbia Hotels & Resorts Training Academy. She is a certified ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 2200 Lead auditor as well as a certified vocational trainer by the Human Resource Development Authority of Cyprus (HRDA) and the EHL (École hôtelière de Lausanne).

Mrs. Mary possesses the following additional Qualifications/Certifications
  • Grad IOSH
  • Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner specified on Tourism Industry and construction
  • Auditor / Lead auditor of ISO 14001, 22000 and 9001
  • Pest Management System Coordinator- Certified by Agriculture Ministry
